Why Do Dogs Sleep So Much

Dogs sleep more than humans because their bodies require more rest. In the wild, dogs would sleep for long periods of time in order to conserve energy for hunting and other activities. Domestic dogs still have this natural instinct and tend to sleep more than humans as a result.

The amount of sleep that a dog needs can vary depending on their size, age, and level of activity, but on average, dogs need about 12-14 hours of sleep per day. Puppies and older dogs may need even more sleep.

In addition to conserving energy, sleep is also important for a dog’s overall health and well-being. During sleep, a dog’s body is able to repair and regenerate cells, and their immune system is able to function more efficiently.

If your dog is sleeping more than usual or seems lethargic, it is a good idea to consult your veterinarian to rule out any underlying health issues.
